The Effect of the Women’s World Cup in Germany

This summer, women’s soccer is set to take center stage. The 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup will ensure that the world’s best athletes will be on display before a global audience. Thanks to financial clout and widespread marketing efforts from Germany’s Football Federation (the DFB), Germany is poised to host one of the best-attended Women’s World Cups on record. Heightened TV production standards, a frenzied home atmosphere and ever-increasing quality of play are all reasons why this Women’s World Cup is so hotly anticipated.

Germany’s curtain-raising match against Canada is expected to sell out Berlin’s Olympic Stadium on June 26th. A capacity crowd of 74,000 would smash the previous record attendance recorded for a women’s soccer match when 44,825 fans gathered to watch Germany host Brazil in a 2009 friendly. It would be a grand way to ring in the World Cup.
